New plans of Physiology
13 Jan 2012
The annual Policy Day of the department of Physiology was
organized in Huize Heyendeal. In this beautiful and inspiring
ambience, we discussed various importance issues and developments
of our teaching and research activities. René Bindels presented a
short overview of 2011 and looked ahead. Rapid changes are expected
in funding of research projects by the government. New plans are
implemented promptly with respect to sector plans and corresponding
road maps. Central in these new research projects will be the
participation of the private sector. Our department has to act
accordingly and swiftly to these new opportunities.
Michiel Gerlagh introduced a new concept of
working that will be implemented in our department with the slogan
"More responsibility and more freedom". To this end,
we will work with management by objective (MBO) in which
we discuss and evaluate together what is accomplished rather then
how we spend our time. We started to formulate our own objectives
for the coming year. Subsequently, our group leaders Peter Deen,
Maria Hopman and Joost Hoenderop outlined the plans and strategy
for their teams. Finally, everybody discussed in small groups their
plans and objectives for the coming year. This latter as a first
step to accomplish their great dreams. It was a stimulating
afternoon in which we all participated actively.
During our Policy Day Dr. Dick Thijssen received
an award in recognition of his extraordinary number of published
papers in 2011 in the international literature, including journals
like Hypertension, J Applied Physiology, Clin Sci, Am J Physiol,
Int J Obesity. Dick published in 2011 23 reviewed papers: 8 first
author, 11 co-author and 4 last author publications. An outstanding
achievement.
