PhD student
Ellen van Loon

Ellen obtained her M.Sc. in Biomedical Sciences at the Radboud University in Nijmegen in 2011. Her first internship was at the institute for Cell and Molecular Biosciences in Newcastle upon Tyne, where she investigated the suitability of the proximal tubule cell line HK2 as a drugtransport model. Her other internship was already at the Department of Physiology in the Ion transport group, where she studied the role of Klotho in the FGF23 signaling pathway.

Now, as a PhD student at the Department of Physiology under the supervision of Prof. Joost Hoenderop, she is working on Klotho, FGF23 and its regulation in health and disease. This project is part of the Dutch Kidney Foundation Consortium NIGRAM.
