Jenny van der Wijst works in the specialized area of
electrophysiological analysis combined with the biochemistry of ion
channels and cell signaling. Her research interest is focused on
the molecular and cellular physiology of epithelial ion transport.
She obtained her PhD degree in Medical Science in 2011 at the
Radboud University Nijmegen. During her PhD at the department of
Physiology, she studied the regulation and molecular mechanisms of
transepithelial magnesium transport. Subsequently, she broadened
her technical skills and knowledge on biochemistry by joining the
specialized kinase-related lab of Prof. Alessi (MRC-PPU Dundee,
Scotland) on an EMBO long-term fellowship. Following, she combined
her biophysical and biochemical expertise on a NWO Veni-funded
research project at the department of Physiology. Currently, she
works as an assistant professor at the department of Physiology and
as a Marie Curie fellow at the lab of Prof. Cheng (UCSF, USA) to
expand her research towards the structure-function relationship of
transient receptor potential (TRP) ion channels.
