Martijn Wilmer

Martijn Wilmer completed his PhD in Medical Sciences at the department of Pediatrics at the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre in 2010. He investigated the pathogenesis of the inherited disorder nephropathic cystinosis, for which he developed a human renal proximal tubular cell line, ciPTEC. He used this cell line to study drug-drug interactions as a postdoctoral researcher at the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre, department of Pharmacology and Toxicology. In addition to his interests in the regulation of renal drug transporters, pharmacokinetics and the development of a biological kidney support device, he is exploring the possibilities to commercialize his activities using the patented ciPTEC in collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry. In July 2011, he started on a collaboration project between the departments of Pharmacology-Toxicology, Physiomics and Pediatrics to improve kidney repair through cell fate changes and reprogramming, funded by the Netherlands Initiative for Regenerative Medicine.
