Sjoerd Verkaart studied Medical Biology in Nijmegen and
subsequently completed his PhD at the Department of Biochemistry at
the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre in Nijmegen. His PhD
focused on the involvement of reactive oxygen species in the
pathogenesis NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase deficiency, a fatal
disease affecting mitochondrial function. At the department of
Physiology, he uses life-cell imaging and patch-clamp analysis to
study the molecular regulation of the epithelial calcium and
magnesium channels TRPV5 and TRPM6.
